A 1250-mile self-contained bike trip does not happen without just a tad bit of preparation — both to train the legs and body and to prepare the bike. I will be using my model year 2000 Cannondale for this epic biking adventure that already has over 28,000 miles on it! In preparation for this trip, I replaced the complete drive train, replaced old seat, switched tires to SCHWALBE Marathons, and added new lights, panniers, and phone mount — let’s hope old faithful holds up. Finally, key to route selection is a great biking app. I am using Map My Ride, which is very handy in determining mileage and giving directions along the way. Typical ‘Training’ Route
Out on a 45-mile ‘training’ route this morning on a hot and muggy day in south-central Wisconsin. Route took me north of Madison and through the beautiful farm fields of Dane County, with lots of hills! Also, passed by Galactic Wind Farm, which is a 6-turbine, 10-MW site near Middleton that is owned by Epic Systems. My legs are ready for my launch day on Saturday!
I can’t wait for #BiketheWind!
After months of preparation, #BiketheWind is finally here! I’ve been training by biking to work everyday–and for almost everything else! I’ve created a blog to keep track of everything I’ll be seeing and doing while I’m biking the wind, and so you can see just how amazing wind energy is!
This Friday, I will also be featured by WKOW on “Wake Up Wisconsin” for my trip. Check it out if you have a chance, and don’t forget to follow #bikethewind for more updates!
See you on the road!
